The Global Economy and the Dominican Republic

From 2003 thru 2007, the DR enjoyed double-digit growth in both their Tourism and GDP. Though these have both cooled slightly since the international market meltdown, the country is still projecting a 7.6% annual growth in GDP. This is comparable to the 2 largest developing nations in the world, China and India. China, home to the 2008 Summer Olympics, is projecting 8% year-over-year growth in GDP while India is currently running at 7%.
With the exception of Cuba, the Dominican Republic is the largest country in the Caribbean. In fact, the DR is larger than ALL of the other Caribbean countries combined. Neighboring country Haiti provides an abundant supply of affordable construction workers. President Leonel Fernandez, recently re-elected to a 3rd term in office, has long been a partner in trade with the United States, European Union, and Latin America.
Nations around the world are investing heavily in the infrastructure, telecommunications, energy, and medical industries. It’s a great way to diversify any investment portfolio, especially considering that the economy is growing at a time when many others are declining.
